Johnny and Aubrey Terra

Johnny and Aubrey TerraJohnny, BBA ’11 & MBA ’12, and Aubrey, BS ’14, are occasionally asked why they choose to give back to Wayland at a young age when giving tends to be something done by older people. But for the Terras, giving back just makes sense.

“It’s about us giving back to the university that has provided everything for us,” said Johnny, a partner with LPT CPAs and Advisors in Amarillo. “We graduated with a total of three degrees. I met Jesus here, through the people who were involved with my life. I met my wife here. When you hear these things, why not give back?”

A native Brazilian, Johnny came to Wayland speaking very little English and was met by people who made him feel at home. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Wayland in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Aubrey earned an education degree in 2014. Now a U.S. citizen and successful businessman, husband and father, Johnny is thankful that he can support the university that means so much to him.

“We all know it’s not our money,” Johnny said. “It’s God’s money. This is our way to show a little bit of God’s grace to someone just like me. Hopefully, they will have a good experience that we can help provide.”
