Dr. Estelle Owens

I give to Wayland Baptist University because it changed my life. Wayland faculty took an introverted, small-town girl and prepared me for graduate school and the life of the mind as a college professor. For my four years as an undergraduate and my 42 years on the faculty, my gratitude is boundless.

Wayland allowed me to serve for many years, and those years fed my soul and exercised my spiritual gifts. Most days, I could honestly say that I had done my best to be a Martha as God put people in my path who needed help. I cannot imagine a better way to seek significance in life than having the opportunity to serve others at such an institution. So, I will go to Glory convinced that giving to Wayland programs and scholarships, and leaving my estate to Wayland, is the right thing to do because Kingdom causes are eternal.

Because it was the Christian thing to do, Wayland embraced gender, racial and age equality long before most colleges took those steps. Such an institution deserves my support and the support of anyone who shares those values. Wayland’s philosophy was and is that everyone is equal at the foot of the Cross.

I know the University is grateful for every gift of every amount, for every positive word someone speaks on its behalf and for every prayer lifted in Wayland’s name. No one should think that the amount he can give is too small to matter. If others give what they can and I give what I can, we can make a huge difference for Wayland and the people the University continues to educate and to serve. Wayland can go on being a city set on a hill for generations to come.

Like Dr. Owens, you can make an impact with your gift on Wayland’s future and our mission to educate students in an academically challenging, learning-focused and distinctively Christian environment. Please contact Mike Hammack at (806) 291-3428 or hammackm@wbu.edu to learn more.
