Education should be fun. And SAFE.

Instructors should engage students in value-added, relevant, meaningful activities where students explore options, ideas and modes of inquiry. Curiosity should be tempered by pragmatism. But most of all, education should be fun and safe.

Christian higher education prepares students to meet future work needs and social challenges. It provides a framework for encountering the world with integrity and for the ethical treatment of others. More importantly, it guides right action in a world gone wrong.

Wayland does these things while showing students how to follow God’s moral compass.

Wayland certainly did that for me.

When I attended Wayland last century, our hymn was “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” Following God’s moral compass, I have been richly blessed through God’s abundant grace.

I have more than I need—we all do—and I believe that God gives us more than we need not so that we can be rich, but so that we can be generous.

I give to Wayland both to pay back and to pay forward the generous opportunity God provided through visionary Pioneers who funded my Wayland education. Doing so means that I’ve made provision to help Wayland both now and in the future.

I can’t take it with me, but I can touch the face of the future through Wayland students for many generations yet to come. It is Kingdom Work, and it is the right thing to do.
